You wanna play Chaos Invasion, you play TWW1, you wanna play Vortex, you play TWWH2, you wanna play something else, then play ME.ģ- Real choice of different playthrough. I think CA wants to make Mortal Empire like a TWWH 1 mega campaign but I just don't see the point. I think it's broken, I think I'm tired of Chaos Invasion after 300h on TWW1 and 150h on ME. Many people, including myself, dislike the idea of the Chaos Invasion Mechanic in ME. Just like in CKII.Ģ- Chaos Invasion mechanic. Ditch the strategic balance of power (the grand map one), keep the tactical one of course (army composition and autoresolve AI), and let players choose the challenge they want to face. That solves many problem:ġ- Balancing in the classical sense, you don't need that and it's impossible anyway, the more parameters in the game, the harder it is balance. The game is not balanced, meaning not every major faction starts more or less equal and must grind to the top, this time it's 100% unbalanced but it's up to the player to choose what they wanna play. Just like in Crusader King II (with less complexity, in CKII you can pick the exact date of your choice) you could have a Mortal Empire campaign spanning over centuries and you pick one date out of 5 or 10 or whatever changing the whole map. Wanna play the beginning of the Van Carstein bloodline? Here you go. You wanna play when the Dwarves were losing their Kraks everywhere? Here you go. You wanna play the end times with Chaos Invasion? Here you go. Why not a Mortal Empire where you can choose between 5 dates for instance, changing the map and the strength of the powers accordingly. Ditch the global balance of power, still fix the auto resolve though, but make it so that you can play anything in any position. This is exactly where Mortal Empire should go. You wanna go easy? pick William the Conqueror in 1066, you wanna play hardcore? play that muslim count in Kwarezm a year before the mongol invasion. Let's look at Crusader Kings II for a minute, the game is not balanced and not meant to be, each player chooses it's difficulty by picking a character. Also, balancing makes grand strategy boring. I don't think this game can and should be balanced on the campaign map, the auto resolve math should be polished for sure, but trying to balance the game between all those factions with very different gameplay seems like a useless task.

I say with a lot of ambition, this can be fixed and create a better grand strategy game without having to go into the complexity of a Paradox games. Right now it seems CA is swamped between lore and sandbox. To me, most of the flaws of the actual ME with the exception of the AutoResolve issue comes from decisions on how the game should look like. TWWH could benefit a lot from taking elements from Paradox Grand Strategy experience for the Mortal Empire campaign.
